A winter climb of the highest mountain in Western Europe and an environment where weather, altitude and technical decisions can change quickly.

It meant becoming beginners again.

The physical demands were different. The skills were different. The risks were different. Previous success offered very little protection from inexperience in the mountains.

That became the lesson.

Confidence is useful, but it can quickly become dangerous if it prevents you from recognising what you still need to learn. The ascent forced us to listen, adapt and become comfortable being inexperienced again.

The mountain reinforced something that would become central to our later work: high performance is not about being good at everything. It is about being willing to enter unfamiliar territory, learn quickly and respond intelligently as conditions change.

Mont Blanc became the first proof that our approach to adventure was transferable.

The environment could change completely. The underlying mindset did not have to.
